The Enthusia Marathon, held on December 4th, saw an amazing footfall for 5k and 10k marathons with enthusiasts running for a social cause promoting the message of clean and healthy social life.
Enthusia is a sports festival held annually at Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute(VJTI), one of the oldest engineering colleges in Asia located at Matunga in the heart of Mumbai. One of the largest student-managed sports events in India, it attracts participants from colleges across the nation.
Prior to the race , the participants were enthused by The Powerhouse Gym who conducted an entertaining zumba session to warm up the runners. The Marathon began early morning at 7 am from the main gate of the VJTI campus and continued across the streets of Matunga. After the race, the Powerhouse Gym conducted a fitness session to finish the proceedings.
This year VJTI Gymkhana associated with Heyyo Media and Teach for India program for their Educate India campaign. Under this campaign, Teach for India has taken up the initiative to beautify classrooms. Enthusia has supported this campaign by lending their services to paint classrooms in a municipal school at Matunga..
These fun-filled events have promoted health, fitness and mental well-being while also making people conscious of social causes and giving back to society.
In recent years, Enthusia has been synonymous with its annual Marathon and Cyclothon events held in the month of December. Enthusia Cyclothon has aimed at creating awareness about cycling as a means of improving fitness. This fun event has seen massive participation and support over the years.
This Cyclothon took place on Sunday 11th December 2016 and was open to all age groups. Bharat Cycle Co and Firefox Cycles lent their support to the Cyclothon by lending cycles to the event participants. The event began from the main gate of the VJTI campus as participants embarked on a joyride around the beautiful tree-lined streets of Matunga. Enerzal provided complimentary energy drinks to all the participants. While partaking of refreshments after the Cyclothon, participants were entertained by BMX riders who performed some breathtaking stunts.
“Running the Enthusia Marathon is not about speed and victory, but rather it is a celebration of life and fitness irrespective of one’s age or agility. It’s about running for a cause you believe in whilst enjoying the sense of freedom and exhilaration that comes from living life to its fullest!”, says Joel D’souza, the General Secretary at Enthusia VJTI.
The Marathon and Cyclothon have made Enthusia more than a regular sports festival. These fun events have brought communities together through the love of sports. With the huge turnout witnessed for these events over the years, it is certainly an experience that the residents of Mumbai would not want to miss in the future.
