Union Public Service Commission may reduce the age limit for Civil Services Examination (CSE) to 26 years. At present, candidates between 21 and 32 years of age are eligible for the exam.

As per reports, the board might be phasing out the age limit by six years over the next 5-7 years.

However, for SC/ST, there would be no reduction in the upper age limit and the criteria will remain unchanged.

The final decision on this matter will be taken by the Central Government.

Every year, lakhs of candidates appear for the examination. The general category and OBC candidates are allowed six attempts for IAS Civil Services examination while it is not restricted to SC/ ST candidates.
