Iftikhar Ahmed, a 5 year-old Pakistani boy was apparently “forcibly” taken to India by his father a year ago. On March 2016, Gulzar Ahmed, a Kashmiri from India’s Ganderbal district, brought his son away from his mother in Pakistan to India.

Subsequently, a case was filed in an Indian court by his mother Rohina Kiyani. Even after the verdict been announced by May 2016, due to disturbances between the two countries, it took eight months to get her son’s custody.

Apart from thanking and appreciating India for its cooperation, The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi said that the five-year-old boy was lodged for some time in a hotel in Amritsar with a senior diplomat and later taken to Wagah.

According to IANS, “Gulzar had allegedly lied to his wife that he was taking Iftikhar to a wedding with him. He took the boy to Dubai and then to Ganderbal. However, after the case was taken up by the Pakistan High Commission and it was proven that Iftikhar was a Pakistani national, the verdict was given that he be repatriated to Pakistan.”
