Less than a month after 25 CRPF personnel attained martyrdom in a Naxal terrorist attack in Sukma, the central armed police force gained a major victory on Tuesday in an anti-Naxal operation.

Twenty Naxals were killed in a CRPF operation conducted on Sunday in Bijapur in Chhattisgarh. The information was disclosed only today by the CRPF.

Reports reveal that two of the security force personnel attained martyrdom in the operation while two others were injured.

CoBRA or Commando Battalion for Resolute Action is the elite commando force of the CRPF which participates in anti-Naxal operations across Maoist infested states. Naxals often make away with the guns and uniforms of martyred CRPF personnel after an ambush, which is probably how the CoBRA uniforms landed in Naxal hands.

Besides the killing of 20 Naxals, the CRPF has also conducted arrests in other parts of the state.

Early in May, Home Minister Rajnath Singh had talked about a revamped strategy to tackle Left-wing terrorism.

“Naxal problem can’t be resolved through ‘silver bullets’ or through any shortcut, but through short-term, medium-term and long term solutions,” he said.

Singh had also called for aggression in the anti-Naxal policy.

Since the April 24 Sukma attack, the CRPF caught 72 Naxal terrorists in 200 operations. Fifteen of those apprehended were involved in the April 24 ambush.

Joint operations with the state police have so far yielded impressive results in the fight against Left-wing terrorism.
