As per a recent report, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has established that some top Hurriyat leaders are likely receiving funds from Pakistan which are in-turn helping stone-pelters and militants.
According to Alok Mittal, Inspector General of NIA, a good number of stone-pelters have been identified receiving funding from Hurriyat. As per the report, he said,
We have identified large number of stone pelters who were helped by Hurriyat leaders. As of now investigation has revealed that the Hurriyat top leadership and their close associates were getting money and they would route it for subversive activities.
Mittal mentioned that people indulging in insurgent activities – militants and stone-pelters – have been receiving the funds. He also said that NIA might be soon making some arrests especially those found guilty of receiving funds.
Officials quoted that around 50 stone-pelters have been spotted with their handlers. On Sunday, raids were conducted at Devinder Singh Behal’s residence. However, he has not been arrested yet. He is believed to be associated with the Hurriyat chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s party, Tehrik-i-Hurriyat.
The investigation against the Hurriyat leaders are based on inputs from intelligence agencies. Investigations have also revealed that money was transferred via hawala channels through different mediums from various locations in India and outside.
Six separatist leaders have been arrested from Srinagar as per another report. It is also contended that later they were flown to Delhi. They have been booked on charges of criminal conspiracy and funding war against the nation. Farooq Ahmad Dar was held in Delhi.
