Not a national victory of gold or silver, but it took a Bollywood blockbuster to shake Haryana government out of its slumber. Dangal is fiery at the box-office and being the second commercial movie based on wrestling after Sultan this year,  it has definitely brought wrestling to the limelight.

According to PTI, Haryana government has decided to offer 100 free wrestling mats to its wrestlers this year.

Previously, IANS reported that Haryana’s Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar confirmed that his government had set up a committee led by the Chief Secretary to streamline the process of giving employment to the state’s outstanding sportspersons. This happened after he met the wrestling champions Geeta and Babita Phogat along with their father Mahavir. However, the two admit that it’s indeed disheartening to realize that it was not their victory which caused a change but a commercial movie success.

“I know people knew us by names before also. But it has taken six years after we won the medals for us to get famous. It does feel bad, but the sadness is slowly going away,” Geeta had said.

Nevertheless, at least the government is taking notice and consequential actions in the direction. So let’s hope at least Bollywood starts producing more movies of value so that they bring the wind of change.
