How Chelsea Manning Expressed Her Joy Of Being Released From Military Prison After 7 Years

Chelsea Manning is now a free person.

After spending seven years in a US military prison for passing classified information to whistleblower website WikiLeaks, Manning was released on Wednesday.

Manning’s action accounted for the largest breach of national secrets in the history of the United States.

Upon her release, Manning posted this tweet:

She then shared with her 170K followers on Twitter her first pizza in seven years:


And raised a toast to what she called “a new beginning”.

At the time Manning passed on information to WikiLeaks, she was working as an intelligence analyst in Iraq. It was the time when she had not yet undergone her gender transition and went by the name of Bradley Manning.

Manning’s release is significant because WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange had made it a condition for accepting extradition.


The US has said that getting Julian Assange is a priority for them.

Originally sentenced to 35 years in prison, Manning’s prison term was reduced by 28 years by former US President Barack Obama.
