Swati Singh, wife of former Bharatiya Janata Party Uttar Pradesh vice president Dayashankar Singh, has alleged that she and her 12-year-old daughter are being abused and threatened by Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) men.

“BSP people are publicly making statements saying ‘unki patni, beti ko pesh karo’. What BSP people are saying, is it not condemnable? Shouldn’t such people be also removed from party,” she asked.

“They are abusing her. My daughter is traumatized. They are dragging my daughter into this and no one is standing by us…She is a minor and she is being mentally harassed. What crime has my daughter committed that BSP workers are abusing us,” Swati, a former lecturer at Lucknow University, said.

She demanded an FIR to be lodged against the abusers and a case of mental harassment should be filed against them.

“If something happens to my children, will Mayawati take responsibility for it?” Swati, who also has a son, questioned.

The development comes a day after the BSP protested in Lucknow demanding arrest of Dayashankar, who has now gone missing.

Dayashankar was sacked from all party posts after he made derogatory remarks against Mayawati, sparking an uproar in Parliament and causing huge embarrassment for the party. The move was seen as an effort to check massive political damage with crucial assembly elections now months away.

Talking about the protests, Mayawati said in Delhi on July 21, “To the backward classes, I am like a Devi (Goddess). They are angry.”

“If the BJP had filed an FIR against Dayashankar they may have been able to win me over, but removing him from the party is just a formality,” said the BSP chief who had vowed yesterday that the “country will not forgive the BJP.”
