Bollywood has a thing for remakes and remixes. Cut, copy, paste. Is there a dearth of creative ideas and intelligent writers? Fittingly, off late, seems so. The remake of Tamil romantic superhit O Kadhal Kanmani, OK Jaanu, has not even released and here’s another remake rumored to be going on floor in few months.
This time, it’s Hollywood superhit, “The Fault in Our Stars”. Dharma Production has had the project in pipeline for over two years. Now according to Mumbai Mirror, the leads have been decided and it’s a fresh pairing of Alia Bhatt and Aditya Roy Kapur.
A source associated with the team reveals, “Alia was always the first choice for the film. In fact, the project had been planned with her in mind. Now, impressed with Aditya’s performance in OK Jaanu, the production house has approached him for the male lead. If everything goes as planned, the film should take off around June-July 2017.”
Based on John Green’s novel The Fault In Our Stars, the Hollywood movie of it made a huge success on box office as it quite became the love anthem of the season. Playing it safe, just like always, Bollywood is again on the look out for a tried-tested formula.
From movies to music, all we are doing is presenting old wine in new bottle. Why can’t we let the originals just be and produce something fresh which we can remember for years to come? Consider this, Bollywood. We don’t want this decade to just moan in the drabby remakes of old hits.
